Coumarin
Coumarin is an organic compound which occurs in the form of colorless crystals and is partially dissolvable in alcohol and water. The scent is pleasant and characteristic and reminiscent of freshly mown hay. Coumarin is found in many plants, including several grass and clover species and even cinnamon. In large amounts, it is considered to be toxic and can cause headaches and liver damage.
Coumarin is used in perfumery and in the manufacture of medicament with anticoagulant effect.
