The balsatree is growing wild in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America. The wood is light, dry and soft, which makes it ideally suited as a material to strop razors against.
This block measures 8.8 cm x 22.1 cm, which the stropping surface of balsa is 7.5 x 21 cm.
Used with our lapping paste with chromium oxide (green), you can easily reduce the sharpness of an overly sharp razor. Note, however, that the wood will forever bear traces of the green paste.
Use with our white lapping paste to refine the edge on your razor to excellent sharpness.
Trivia of balsa wood: Kon-Tiki consisted mostly of balsa wood because it is an easy and very dry wood with excellent buoyancy. Even today, balsa is common as filling in the boat deck on plastic boats.
