Broom (Cytisus/Genista)
Broom is a genus in the legume family, with yellow flowers that grow wild in parts of Europe, some of which are toxic. A particular variety is the Mount Etna broom (or Broom of Volcano), which grows at the foot of Mount Etna on Sicily. In perfumery, an absolute extract is used, featuring bitter and honeyed notes. This delicate material also evokes the scent of orange blossom, with undertones of tobacco and lime. The highly distinctive scent of broom is especially well-suited to floral, oriental, or citrus-based compositions.
