Fantomas from the niche brand Nasomatto is a cacophony of notes, yet it is quite clear that perfumer Alessandro has chosen to highlight a synthetic melon as the main note, even though high levels of ambroxan are also present.

Alessandro’s note pyramids can only be guessed at, but behind the fruitiness of melon we detect hints of a plastic-like quality reminiscent of rubber – some say hot asphalt – as well as a certain smokiness. We also perceive sweet fruity accords alongside powdery and earthy notes, accompanied by something resembling patchouli in the drydown.

Fantomas is likely, alongside Nudiflorum, the fragrance in the Nasomatto line that, with its synthetic character, shares the most with Alessandro’s side project Orto Parisi. Not a fragrance for everyone, but a clear favorite among those who admire Alessandro Gualtieri’s complexity and want to wear something truly unique.
