Rhododendron

In perfumery, rhododendron is described as a complex, fresh and herbaceous floral note with a distinct hint of crisp mountain air. It does not smell like traditional, sweet garden flowers, but leans more towards the wild, alpine and woody. The note imparts a cool, crisp and almost chilly sensation reminiscent of highland air and dew-kissed mountain slopes, and has a distinct undertone of green, waxy leaves and resinous, balsamic elements. A certain hint of sweetness and spiciness can also be discerned in its character.

Rhododendron is primarily used as a heart note. It works excellently to lend sweet floral scents (such as rose or jasmine) a certain earthiness by adding a sophisticated, herbaceous depth. It is also popular in niche perfumes with a forest theme, where it is combined with incense, cedar or amber accords to create a mysterious and nature-inspired aura
