Are you tired of how much money you spend on razor blades and shaving foam every week? Does your shaving routine create a massive hole in your wallet? Maybe you’re using the same old shaving routine purely by habit without even giving other alternatives any thought? Then this article is for you!
RAZORS
Modern multiblade razors, Gillette for example, have been mens shaving norm for a long time. That’s because the blades are available for purchase anywhere and are easy and practical to use. Although the cost of long term use, very rapidly adds up and becomes very expensive compared to some other alternatives that are available. The razor itself isn’t what’s burning a hole in your wallet, it’s the razor blades that’s because they collect a lot of debris between them and they get clogged up and have to be exchanged often. More often than not you are stuck with the type of blade your razor is made for and cannot switch between different types since the blade only fits a specific razor. Not even the single use disposable razors are very cheap when compared to their quality that is. Neither are they gentle to your skin.
There is a whole lot of money to be saved just by changing your morning routine and enjoying a classic and high quality shave with a safety razor. Quality always pays off.”

If you want an especially close shave that doesn’t put stress or irritation on the skin a classic safety razor with sharp “double edge blades” is preferable, according to most shaving enthusiasts. The cheapest safety razors, are often made out of steel and chrome and are therefore heavier than the multi-blade systems. They cost about about €30-50 but will last for a very long time.
RAZOR BLADES
The blades on the other hand (is where the savings begin) are extremely cheap. So cheap in fact that you’ll quickly earn back the cost of the razor. Additionally all double sided blades fit all safety razors so that you never have to change your razor to adjust your shaving experience.
While a six-pack of Gillette Mach3 can cost somewhere around €15 (as well as being consumed quickly) a five-pack of sharp double edge blades costs between €0.5-2.5 per pack and keep their sharpness much, much longer. A major win for both your wallet and your skin. Besides that it’s much more fun.
LATHER
For many, shaving foam or gel in a spraycan is good enough, but these are often consumed quickly and so is your money. If you use a safety razor, foam or gel isn’t recommend since the skin need better protection when shaving as close as a safety razor does. But if you’re not entirely ready to let go of lather from a can you should take a look at Proraso, the budget brand from Italy that now seen as cult in the shaving communities. Since 1948 they have been producing some of the worlds best canned shaving foam (and other shaving products as well for that matter). They are long lasting, economical and provides a superb glide.
On the other hand, if you’re ready for something different, a shaving cream that you work up using warm water gives you a much fuller lather. While a spray can of foam cost anywhere between €5-10 and is very quickly consumed making you buy new ones over and over. However if you use a shaving cream you will not have the same issue. Because a shaving cream has such high density it is much more economical in the long run since a jar can last upwards of a year and a tube for several months.
The cost (depending on the brand) of a jar of shaving cream is €15-25 and a tube is €10-15 making them very economical when you look at how long it lasts.
If you are more of a shaving soap kind of person (which last as long as a jar of shaving cream and generates the same type of thick lather) it gives you the same economical advantage and is just as long lasting. Just note that a shaving brush is mandatory since the soap is very hard in its consistency.
