That solar radiation is harmful is not questioned any longer. Continuous over exposure can lead to skin spots as a result of chronic over stimulation of the pigmentation cells, but also to keratos, squamous cell cancer, or melanoma.
To completely avoid the sun is in the meantime not an alternative for most people. And of course, it is possible to continue to live as usual – surf, water ski, lay on the beach – if you protect yourself in the right way. Equip yourself with a sunscreen with a high sun factor, especially if you are in the vicinity of water which reflects the sunlight and increases the risk of damage. If you go on vacation to a warm country, you should use at least sun protection SPF 20 during your entire visit. You should in other words not change to a lower factor after a while – you will still tan, we promise!
Use sunscreen cream on all exposed skin. You can ask your girlfriend to help with the areas that are difficult to reach (and you also get an excuse to return the favour). Reapply after bathing even if it says on the package that it is waterproof. When you dry yourself with a towel, the sunscreen is also wiped away. It is a good idea to put a new layer on once an hour if you are in direct sunlight.
Even the sensitive area around the lips needs to be protected. There are special sticks available that both protect and care for your lips. Do not be afraid to apply the stick on the skin even a bit outside of the lips.
Do not forget that the sun can burn thoroughly even when you are skiing. Snow works as a reflector in the same way as the ocean does.
