THE MORNING SHOWER
- ENLIGHTENING OR DEVASTATING?

For many of us, the morning shower is more of a ritual than a routine. 10 minutes of absolute alone time, or even double that on a really good day, is a rare treat. But is it really necessary to shower every day? Could it even be harmful?

IS IT ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO SHOWER EVERY DAY?

In humid climates, the skin requires more attention. Increased moisture on the face is more likely to cause acne. The same applies if you exercise daily. Then you need to clean your skin to avoid impurities and unsatisfactory odours. If you have normal to oily skin, it is even more important to cleanse your skin every day.

Here in the Nordic countries, cold winds and biting cold are the order of the day. In harsh climates, exposure to daily showers can damage your skin. Too much dehydrating soap and hot water dries out the skin, causing itching and discomfort. If you have extra dry or sensitive skin, you should avoid showering every day altogether. If you still want to keep showering in your daily routine, you should focus on a soap with emollient properties and a lotion that moisturises the skin.

THE HAIR?

Daily shampooing can cause your hair to dry out and look tired and lifeless. This is because the shampoo washes away the natural oils that give your hair volume and shine. The truth is that washing your hair often has the opposite effect as the scalp begins to overproduce oils to compensate, making your hair greasy faster. Instead, try shampooing your hair a couple of times a week. It may feel tough for the first couple of weeks, but your hair will gradually get used to it, and before you know it, daily shampooing will be a thing of the past.

If you still need to freshen up your hair, dry shampoo is your saviour.

Looking at your own well-being, the answer to the question is simple - shower every morning for as long as you like! If we look at technical aspects, the answer is more complicated, it simply depends on the conditions of your skin and hair. In general, however, we can state that the daily shower is not particularly necessary, as the body itself is good at producing natural oils and good bacteria that keep the skin and hair healthy and fresh. For those who believe that the daily shower is non-negotiable - invest in high quality products!
