Benjamin Barber Romulus EdP

Benjamin Barber's Romulus EdP is a characterful, powerful leather fragrance with creamy ambery notes, inspired by Roman mythology and the dramatic story of Romulus and Remus. The perfumer is Mathieu Nardin.

Romulus is a story of tragedy, drama and survival, in which the king's daughter was walled up to die as punishment after being seduced by Mars, the god of war, and giving birth to twins Romulus and Remus. The twins were thrown into the Tiber River but were rescued by a she-wolf who suckled them and they grew up to be strong warriors. The brothers built a city wall around each hill and fought each other, with Romulus winning the battle and giving the city and city-state of Rome its name.

The perfume Romulus is as dramatic and brutal as the story it is based on: fierce, muscular and challenging, with notes of raw animal leather, spices and complex sweetness. Well-balanced notes of orris, saffron, cinnamon, cypriol and leather on a luxurious, elegant oud base, which later develops into velvety creamy vanilla in the drydown, create a fragrance experience that exudes courage, power and confidence. 

The oud used is a reconstructed fragrance component developed by Arturetto Landi, inspired by the oil of the Australian agarwood tree, which is Vietnamese in origin and sweeter, woodier and milder than traditional Asian oud.
