Stora Skuggan Azalai

Azalai, from Stockholm-based perfumery Stora Skuggan, is a spicy amber fragrance composed by Olle Hemmerdorff.

Azalai is the caravan route through the Ténéré region of the Sahara desert, where camel caravans have transported salt and gold for over a thousand years. Along the road once stood a single surviving acacia tree, the only living thing in a sea of sand, with roots deep into the ground.  This most solitary tree in the world was one of the few landmarks along the Azalai, a sacred testament to the resilience of life that has guided caravans for centuries. Despite this, and the fact that it was the only obstacle for miles around, a drunken lorry driver who had fallen asleep at the wheel crashed into the tree in 1973, killing it. The fragrance Azalai is a celebration of endurance and strength in a harsh, demanding environment and the exotic ingredients and culture of the region.
