Stora Skuggan Thumbsucker
The fragrance Thumbsucker from the Stockholm brand Stora Skuggan began with the idea of creating a hangover perfume, a comforting, enveloping composition with a soft sweetness that simultaneously expresses our longing for intimacy. The name Thumbsucker represents this compulsive need for physical contact and existential comfort.
Since exciting perfumes often build on a good myth that places the scent in time and space, perfumer Olle Hemmendorff and his team began to explore different explanations for the comforting ritual of thumb sucking in folklore from around the world, until they finally landed on the Indian myth of King Yuvanaswa.
It’s a story of magical elixirs and gods, with nectar instead of blood sucked through the king’s thumb to give life to his newborn son – here represented by a mix of honey, locally grown wild cherries, and a special kind of aromatic cedar from the Himalayas. In this intersection between hangover and mythological Hindu magic, the fragrance Thumbsucker was created.
