Gents celebrates 20 years with a limited edition fragrance from Japanese brand Di Ser
In 2024, Gents will celebrate its 20th anniversary with its very own exclusive limited edition perfume, developed in collaboration with Japanese Di Ser.
It's hard to believe, but 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of Gents' emergence in the male grooming market, which is still a rather unexplored universe and a white spot on the commercial map. From small and simple beginnings, we have today established ourselves as one of the major players in what is today considered to be an ever-growing market. Although the road has been long and winding, today it is almost difficult to comprehend the development that the company has undergone during the two decades we have survived both financial crises and corona epidemics, with a rich selection of beard and shaving products, homeware, beauty articles and not least with our increased focus on unique niche perfumes.
So what better way to celebrate this 20th anniversary than by creating our very own perfume in exklusive collaboration Di Ser - a medicinal and perfume company based on the island of Hokkaido, known for its unique and exotic scents, mostly based on local pure and natural ingredients. The perfume is called Kamikura and is released in an exclusive limited edition as a tribute to Swedish entrepreneurship and Nordic nature, and as a thank you for the support and trust our customers have given us over the years.
KAMIKURA - GENTS ANNIVERSARY PERFUME
The nose behind the fragrance Kamikura is Japanese perfumer Yasuyuki Shinohara, the master creator behind Di Ser's fragrances. Shinohara's intention has been to transfer these ideas of purity, nature mysticism and minimalism to Swedish nature and Nordic beauty rituals, where male beauty care and personal purification with the help of scents are at the centre.
In Japanese culture, ‘Kamikura’ is a sacred place considered to be the home of gods and spiritual beings. In these sacred places, people perform purification rituals, dance and sing, and make offerings to Kami, the higher state of man after death. The perfume was created to bring hope for happiness, prosperity and peace, and by spraying the perfume, the place you are in is transformed into a sacred 'Kamikura'. It is therefore a scent that is meditative, spiritual and soothing, where you are mentally transported in time and space.
Kamikura opens fresh and clean with lime and yuzu and balsamic pine from the ezo and todo trees (ezo pine is often used as the miniature trees we know as bonsai, while todo pine - related to noble fir - is common on the island of Hokkaido). The citrus and pine needles opening then transitions into lavender and green vetiver, finally landing in soapy oakmoss, rosemary and woody accords from cypress, patchouli and oud.
It's a scent that initially reveals the Japanese cultural roots of Di Ser but then evolves into a classic woody perfume of European flavour, as an ode to Swedish nature and its purity ideals.
